Alot of guys around here run 3 speed manual trannies. Which do you guys think is better a 3 speed or an automatic.

Auto is alot easier to drive. Ive saw people use 3 speeds, it looked like they had their hands full.

Yeah, theres a group of guys around here that always run suicide lincolns, with stroker engines in them and they run 3 speeds and make it look easy.

Thats what ive heard. I think im going to try and run a 3 speed this year if I can get all the parts round up. Mainly because thats what the majority of the competition is running.

totally automatic, i have enough things to think about w/out thinking about which gear i need to hit, or worying about a clutch.

Turbo 400 all the way. Not a flatlander one either, one from Western Pa. with 60 or 70,000 on it and is used to going up and down hills(keeps everything working). Three speeds are way too complicated and the flywheel is too heavy when the engine is hot.

Thats where some of you guys make your biggest mistake. You try to push people. That is the single most damaging thing you can do to your tranny besides running it dry. And will burn up a clutch in no time. Never push unless you can use their momentum against them.

i see it all the time. i never push. hit and move hit and move then repeat. the only way i will push somebody is if they are going in the same direction that i am and i fall in behind them to push them over the bearm or really make a hit on whoever they are hitting.

Argueably, the most damaging factor with automatic transmissions is heat . If you get a transmission hot, that is what will damage them the most. Another issue is slammin' inbetween forward and reverse without stopping or letting off... Either one of these will cause you to smoke your frictions!

i tend to go forward and reverse really fast w/out letting off very much. that is why i have to have a very good tranny cooler set up.

Yeah Matt, you need to get out of that habit. It is so hard on your tranny's, even with the best cooler. Slow down and take your time.

I was talking pushing in a corner or between 2 dead cars and that doesnt hurt ure tranny,s or it hasnt mine now i would agree with u for long distances and pushing back and forth but if u used a 3 finger clutch and a manual tranny it wouldnt be that hard on it at all for short distances anyway 753 ;D

Ok you guys that are talking manual tranny I have never seen that in the 11 years ive been racing. I hope you are using a cable to operate the clutch cause if you bend em bad then the linkage will not operate very well!!!!!
