I agree it does give it a nice roll and you can still see out the rear then.

i like to not notch, for the reason that i think ur making it pack in to fast. u can have more hits w/ the rear before u cant use it anymore. i tend to make a dimple and get it up high. that way it will go up nomatter what happens, but it will roll not bend in front of the tires. if it starts to go up right there i make the dimple bigger or notch it a small amount. the only cars i would notch is the caddys, and 80s gms. maybe a 60sand 70s fords, but not always.

i agree enforcer i do to 4 the simle fact i want my cars to bend behind the back wheels not in front of so i keep my shaft, reason i think it is tougher is its shorter, take a 3/8 rachet and a 1/2 breaker bar wich 1 is easier to break a bolt lose with, same principle on the notched car, the back end is shorter so it takes leverage away, from in front of the back wheels plus u can see better , atleast thats how i see it what does everyone else think? 753 ;D

I have tried the no-notch method 2 times once with a 76 impala and once with a 76 caddy. Both times after a few full track shots the rear was ramped so bad I couldnt see out the rear and every time I went to track a car I ran over him because of the ramp effect. From here on I notched every 74 to 76 that I have run and the cars packed nice and gave me 3 times as many runs.

I have a 73 olds ninety eight, and i plan on leafing it, should i also notch the frame? If so how do i go about it, do i torch a small v notch on the top of the frame where the boxed frame ends and the c channel frame begins? Also I am gonna have to add to the boxed end of the frame to get my leafs to fit. Please give your opinions. Thanks, P.S. Everybody on this site has been a big help to the demo derby world already keep up the good work, I love this web site.

Fanatic, I've never ran one before, so not really sure. But from what I've seen, I wouldn't notch it. But if you can tuck the trunk, that would be a real good deal. Or at least pre-bend the trunk. And I guess a lot of guys, chain the humps together.

Should I chain them to each other or chain each hump to the upper truck trailing arm, or something like that. And could you explain to me the reasoning for this? Thanks Quinn

ok if its a 73 and u dont box in the c-channel u will be wasting ur time. the c-channel isnt strong enough to withstand a good beating. that is why we tuck and dimple the top of them so they pack in. either box in the c-channel or get a 74-76gm.

I prefer a tuck and notch for the c channel gm's... 753 where exactly do you notch your '74-'76 gm's? I have'nt tried it. However, sounds like I might give it a shot...

i notch mine fordboy right in front of the bolts on bracket 4 bumper make ure notch 3 inches long on top of frame, and 1 1/2 down each side , if possible put trunk lid inside of trunk right were notch ends and use bolt there if aloud, or hide it lol , also make sure u hit quarter panels in so they go in not out if u didnt already know hope this helps 753 ;D

If you short leaf then notch If you long leaf then dont notch. I hope this clears up some confusion.

I will never notch a 74-76 Gm. The most I would do was heat and dimple the top of the frame where the notch would be. You'll keep all your strength, and it will roll where the dimple is. Try this instead of notching.

Yea ive done the dimple and it does last a little longer but after building so many I have gotten lazy and just notch now.

You don't even notch the 80's gm's when you leaf it. To me, it's just a waste.

dont notch qualifications in my opinion: 1. when leafing a full frame gm. 2. any 71-76 gm sedan or wagon. w/ the exception of caddys.
notching qualifications: 1. 80s sedans/wagons 2. 71-76 caddys
just my opinion

agree with most dadicted only i notch the sedans 71- 6 as well , the wagons from factory is like a notch cause theres a foot of just body that packs straight in 71 -6 gms anyway my opinion 753 ;D
