i like the 64-66 the best, but it depends on if u like driveing forward or backwards more. anything older than 67 u will be driving backwards. anything from 67-74 u will be driving forward. i would pay 600 for 66 and older and about the same for 67-73.

If you're good, at using the rear, you can't beat a 64-66 Imp. But if you like the front style driving, then you want the "hammer head" Imps, 67 and up.

I have run a 62 and a 66 if you are able to plate the y then a 66 and older will be good front or rear. I couldnt believe the carnage that the front will do when plated and bumper swapped in the 66 I rolled people over with t-bone shots. lol

it also depends on your rules... the 67-73 cars are fearsome with a pointy bumper welded on, but in stock form the 64-66 have the trunk of doom... in either case, there's a reason why a lot of promoters ban them, because anywhere they run they are the car to beat

thanx for the input guys, I'll be on the look out for the "trunk of doom" and see what I can turn up for next year.

Actually Matt, the 64-66's you can fulltrack with the rear and the nose. The noses are super hard.
The 67-73 are subframes and the noses can be harder than the 64-66. But the rears are really weak.

also with the unibodys, if you hammer too much, the middle will belly

i've won 2 derbies on flats, they don't slow me down, as long as i at least have one good tire on the back, or if the tires come completely off the rim, as long as i stay out of the mud. flat tire don't slow u down any when you have 4:56+ gears and a good torqueing engine

But what is the weakest spot on a imp. 1 is the ball joints, 2 the weigh. hehehehe. Take the front tire out watch it just spin. Then peel the sheet metaluntil you hit the carb.

If the drive tires come off the rim, you aint going anywhere unless your on asphault. not technically true, we have decently muddy tracks and one yea there were 3 imps going at it in the middle of the track, one box car and 2 frontenders. one of the frontenders didnt have any tires and he wasent losing any ground on any of them.

I lost both rear tires, on my first 64 Imp. And I still moved, not real fast, but pretty good on that clay track. I did have the gears welded.

Some of the track here are pretty muddy. Rims will not dig thru that crap. Harder stuff, yeah. But not the sloppy muddy stuff.

yeah true, but they can get pretty muddy around here, but it's mostly packed clay on the dirtrack strip, then it gets pretty mucky out in the infield, where the track water runoff is. but as long as you have a locked rearend, and you still have one good tire, you will move pretty good

I've never had to worry about that yet. I double and tube my tires, and have never lost a tire yet.

when u lose a tire, it does make it more interesting trying to steer, and maneuver
