well in order to do that u need to get a adapter plate and thoes usually cost between 50 and 150 $. plus u might have to work w/ the flywheels and ppl would just rather paus before shifting then go threw all that $, time and effort. now i agree w/ u i would be putting a th400 on the back of mine if i ever need to run one.

I plan on running a 1966 newport, it has a 383 bigblock in it with 83,000 miles. Would you suggest using this engine, or swapping it out with a small block. Please let me know in detail the pros and cons of this question. Thanks for all the help, you guys are great.

i would run the engion, unless u have another engion that u have been running a while and have faith in. this m/t should be fine, get a good tranny cooler and before u shift make sure ur to a complete stop, or stop and pause. i dont know what tranny is behind it, but if u can find a good 727 that would be ur best bet.

Does anybody know how I can tell what tranny is in my 66 Newport (stock) 383 engine. Is there markings or something I can look for?

Matt , save yourself the the trouble . It's a 727 tranny . What years fit what ? all the big block 727 tranny are interchngible .
As for the 383,,,,,DerbyFanatic244 , run it ! If your not happy with it or how it runs right now , then let me know where your at . I'll swap a 318 & tranny for it .

yeah all big blocks had 727s, and the 383 is a good engine. if you use an adapter plate what torque converter could u use??? because if you don't have the right torque converter it will vibrate alot, and you will lose power, i had a 360 one time with a 318 torque converter, and it would vibrate, and it would hardly even go when you stepped on the gas. and sometimes the starter would even grind.

lol , never had that problem. vibration yes ! Never had power issues . It is hard on the rear seal and bearings though .

the reason it vibrates is because the 360 is like the 400 sbc its externaly balanced i believe isnt it shorty ? o and another thing if u use the adapter plate what torque do u use cause mopars flywheels is on the torque isnt it ? lol dont laugh at me to hard guys and girls lol im a chevy man not a par man lol but would like to know if i was right and how and what torque u use with the adapter plate thanks 753 ;D

You use a standard /stick flywheel . This way you don't have to worry about the ring gear . This can be done on the small blocks too.

your right they are on the torque converter on a automatic tranny of the mopar cars. However they aren't on the GM cars, nor the ford cars either . This way you can still use the mopar starter with the mopar engine, rather than trying to figure out a way to mount a GM/ford flywheel to a mopar engine . See what I'm getting at ?

Here is a question (RABTORS SHIFTERS) they do look good but seam that once you hit someone like with the front of ur car it would slam itself in rev. How true is it?

I don't know about anybodys shifters. I make my own. But I don't like having shifters with big handles sticking up. I like using small rods, to make ours. They bend easy, with a little heat, and don't have all that weight sticking up, to be slamed around. I'm not knocking anybodys shifter, that does stick up. Maybe they have a lock-out to keep that from happening. But I like to Keep It Simple Stupid(KISS). Which works for me. Steve ;D

Easiest way to tell the 904's from the 727's is the bottom of the bellhousing where it flattens out at the body. 904's have 2 small humps right there. 727's do not.
