i've been trying to figure out what to put in my charger, and i decided to put a 5.7 hemi in it, i would go with a 426 but they are too expensive for me. so what would i do for a tranny? would a 727 bolt up? and what about a wiring harness? cam? motor mounts? i'm trying to figure out how hard it will be before i buy one. or if i should just freshen up the 360.

Chris, Kind of depends on what you're trying to do. If you want to keep it more or less stock, then I'd build up the 360. You can get some great HP out of them. But if you really want to hotrod it, then a Hemi could be a cool way to go. I would think, the 727 would be able to take care of the power, of any Hemi. Not sure if it would hook up with the 5.7. But if you do go Hemi, make sure you beef up the 727. That is, if you're going to be really building a bad azz street rod.

i just want a hemi, and it would be pretty sweet, something you don't see everyday, i think they make the wiring harnesses and all to put the hemi in the older mopars, either that or i would go with an MSD ignition.

I think the only problem you will have is finding a 5.7 hemi not unless there is a wrecked one in the local junkyard?

Chris, I know there are a couple different companys, that do custom wireing. Can't think of the names right now. But I'm sure if you do a search on your pc's search engine, you should be able to find them.

no there's been alot of em on ebay right now. i was looking on the internet, and the 727 won't bolt up, and the hemi tranny is electronically controlled with an electronic govenor "don't need a goevnoer that's for sure" i'm wanting to do away with all the computer contorlled goveners and all that. probably gonna put a demon 4bbl carb, and dual plane weiand intake on it. thinkin' i'm gonna have to email raptorfab about the adaptor plate, and talk to some of the local mopar guys around here. i know they put the magnum 360 truck engines in their hotrods all the time.

you would have to have the entire wiring harness from the truck the hemi came out of. you would have to run the new elec trans with it also. if you dont want a governor than put a hypertech chip in it. it wouldnt be easy or cheap but it can be done.

If you dont like the cost of the hemi or the computer then go with a 440 these are a plenty powerful motor and they do make hemi kits for the big blocks. I have a 440 in a street rod and am considering a hemi conversion kit for it. Then i would have a 440 hemi that should be confusing to people. lol

yeah but i was kinda wanting a small hemi, people would walk up to it, and look, and first think it's just a small block mopar, then see where the spark plugs are, then be like what the heck is that? a 440 hemi don't sound very economical, sounds like a gas hog, "wait a minute who's worried about gas milage in a hotrod?" dude they seriously make em for big blocks? if they make one that i can do for the 360 that would be awesome thanks for the info shorty

Yes but the kits are for big blocks only. It includes the heads oil return lines etc. The kits vary from 5 grand to 11 grand.

man i think i can buy a 500 stroker for that. lol the hemi 5.7 crate engine with efi is $7799 and the carb version is $7499 but they have the truck engines on ebay sometimes from $1500-up. cool shorty, gonna go find some mopar forums and check with some of those mopar guys, if it looks to be too expensive i might just hop up the 360, or put the 400 out my newport in it, or talk my dad out a 440, but i kinda want to keep the weight down.

I read that one Shorty. I can't remember all of it, but they had some awsome HP just using stock parts. Didn't it have something to do, with putting some 340 heads on it? And something about a intake, that had some surface ground off it?

yeah i got some 340 "x" heads, i figure it would be less headaches that way, and less money and i know how to work on the 360 i'll put the hemi in later on down the road but if one of you will do it first, then i'll know how hard it is, and what i need

u mean 302 ford heads? that would be kinda hard, and kinda dumb, because the ford has way smaller ports and all, and that just sounds impossible almost so what u all think i should do to the 360? i want something to smoke those little riceburners off the road. what kind of cam should i use? kinda wanting to go with the stock torque converter and all, and don't want to have to do too much to the tranny i'll just put a shift kit in it. maybe get the tranny rebuilt, and get the motor balanced. thinking about going with a set of magnum heads, but what modifications will i have to do for that?

No ,no , not ford heads ! Those are casting referance numbers. The full numbers are 4323302. The same heads that they used on the 318 junkyard jewel build . A set of pre - magnum heads flow pretty good . I don't know the nuimbers off hand , but you'll know those when you see the "R T" on the heads . Did I mention that they were R T heads ? As for as the cam goes , you'll have to do some checking around . You 'll need to calculate weight , gear ratios , tranny used , carb size . Look at the possibility that a stall converter is needed . Which intake your gonna need , compression ratio for which set of pistons you decide on,,,,,,what size tires,,,,,. ok !
