Mangled Metal Productions Demolition Derby
Rules & Regulations
Any driver or crew member not complying with any rule will be immediately disqualified.
**No Refunds for any reason.No Exceptions
General Rules:
** Each driver will get a pit pass and one pit crew pass which are included in the pre registration fee. Additional pit passes can be purchased for $10.00 each.
**Drivers and any persons in the pit area will have to sign the waiver and release of liability before entering the pit area. Pit passes must be worn at all times. Mangled Metal Productions is not responsible for lost or stolen articles left unattended before, during, or after the event. If you bring children to the pit, you are responsible for them at all times. This means you will have their names on the waiver that you are required to sign. And they must wear their pit passes at all times also.
**Demolition Derbies are hazardous and a high-risk sport. Mangled Metal Productions is not responsible for any injuries sustained either by driver or pit crew, this is your responsibility.
**There will be no alcohol or any kind of drugs permitted in the pit area or anywhere on the premises. This includes drivers and pit crew. If you are found to have these items or using these items or have used them you will be disqualified and wil not be issued a refund.
**You must be 18 years of age to run this derby. 16 or 17 allowed with a signed, notarized parental consent.
**When you pre register you will be sent a confirmation including time to arrive to the fairgrounds for your designated inspection time all drivers and pit crew members are to sign in at the pit gate before entering pit area. Gates open at 9 a.m. this will allow time to inspect all cars in time for the event.
All drivers must attend the drivers meeting.
No deliberate driver door hits.
No sandbagging!
No geting out of the car unless track official or flagman tells you to do so.
Flagmen must be obeyed. No arguing, fighting, or disobeying. Their say is final.
Any car catching fire twice will be disqualified.
Officials have the right to re-inspect a car at any time.
**Must have working seat belt on driver's side
**Drivers must wear a helmet during the heats and feature for safety.
**Safety glasses are optional but, recommended.
**All parts and cars must be removed from the event site following the derby. Or they become the property of Mangled Metal Productions.
Any reckless driving on the facility premises will result in driver being disqualified.
Car Rules:
All cars must remain stock unless otherwise noted. If it is not in the rules, it does not mean you can do it. So Don't!
**CAR TYPE:
1980-2005 2or 4 door car or station wagons MUST be fresh.No pre-derbied cars allowed. All cars must remain factory stock unless otherwise stated in the rules below! No Checker cabs, four wheels drives, firebirds, hearses, ambulances, or military vehicles.
**Stripping:
All outside hardware such as glass, plastic, fiberglass and chrome molding,doorhandles, mirrors, etc MUST be removed prior to arrival. No broken windows in doors. All flammable materials Must be removed such as carpets, upholstry, headliners, and back seats. Cars must be clean and free of loose objects inside and in the trunk area including spare tire, rims and parts. Insulation blanket under hood MUST be removed. All items must be removed except for front seat.
**Body:
Wheel wells may be cut and rolled for tire clearance. No welding or bolting back together. NO pre denting or tucking the body anywhere. No patching the body except for, under your feet, seat, battery box, fuel tank, or the driver's door.
**SUSPENSION:
You may use spring spacers for getting bumper height and you can short shock the rear. You may swap A-arms of your choice, automotive only allowed. Tie rods must remain stock. Factory leaf cars must remain stock. STOCK clamps ~ stock number of springs. Coils may be wired in place.
**FRAME:
Factory stock frame only! With NO modifications. There will be NO exceptions. Frame must be factory year from vehicle you are running. Trailer hitches and brackets must be removed. You may notch the frame. DO not pre bend the body or the frame. NO painting or undercoating on frame. NO exceptions. If any weld is on frame (except for bumper brackets) or anywhere on body, you will be loaded up and will not be issued a refund.
**Engine:
You may swap motors/transmissions.You may use engine of choice. Mounts at cradle can be welded in. Engine must be secured by 4 chains that are bolted from frame directly to engine in 4 places only. 8 bolts total !!
**Transmission:
Coolers are optional and may be mounted behind seat. Must use transmission line for coolers. Gas line Will Not be allowed. Floor shifters recommended / burp tube must be installed over the dipstick and routed to the ground to prevent fires. TRANSMISSION MAY BE SECURED BY CHAIN, #9 wire or stock mount.
**Rear End:
Any 5 bolt pattern accepted ~ spiders can be welded ~ modificationsmade to swap rears may not strengthen car. You may lengthen upper control arm for desired pinion angle. 2" overlap maximum which can be welded or bolted together. Lower control arms must remain factory stock. Any drive shaft allowed. Coils may be wired to rear end only.
**Bumpers
Any automotive bumper can be used. You can weld bumper to shock, weld shock to frame, DO NOT ADD any extra metal. DO NOT weld bumper seams. 2 places #9 wire around core support to bumper. 2strnds per hole max. ~ NO welding washers on bumper / core support for wire. You may trim bumper ends ~ maximum bumper height is 24" and rear bumper a minimum of 17". Measurement will be taken from ground to center of bumper.
**Tires and Rims:
7.50 -15 maximum size, doubled, glued, and screwed allowed. Valve stem protectors allowed. Highway tires only ~ NO forklift tires or tractor treads. NO studded tires on rear.
**Exhaust System:
Headers can exit stright up through hood. If exhaust system runs under the car, it must exit under the front doors.
Core Support:
May be shimmed up with 2x2 square tubing.
Steering Column:
May be swapped, 2 universal joints are allowed.
Fuel:
Gasoline only.
**Fuel Tank:
Original gas tanks MUST be removed. Tanks are to be mounted behind driver. They MUST be mounted properly and all connections must be secured and leak proof. 6 gallons max. 5 holes must be in floor around gas tank. (If it moves 1/8" ~ it's NOT considered secure)all tanks must be covered with a non flammable material.
**Fuel Line
Electric fuel pumps are acceptible. Must have shut off switch within drivers reach. Mounted on the rear roll cage bar. Must be 12" from the passenger side door with off position being down. Clearly marked for safety personal.
**Roll Cage:
One bar mandatory behind seat. Up to 4" 6x6 1/4 plates weldedon body for cage. No further back then 6" behind seat. DASH BARS AND DOOR BARS ARE OPTIONAL FOR DRIVER SAFETY ONLY. Must be mounted above steering wheel up to 4" max diameter.
**Body Mounts
You may change front two at core support, and back two in the body, max 1/2" size, 3" washers 1/4" thick.Rubbers can be removed and pulled down solid. All other mounts must remain factory stock. Don't touch.
**Doors:
Driver's door may be welded solid. One 1/4" plate not to exceed door seams. may be welded on for safety! No exceptions. Padding inside of driver's door is recommended. All other doors must be held shut with 4 strands#9 wire, up to 2 strands per hole. No washers may be welded on holes for #9 wire. Any door that comes open during heat or feature will automatically be disqualified. Only driver door will be painted white, this is mandatory. And your number will be on both doors, and painted on the roof as well.
**Hoods:
Fiberglass hoods may be changed. Hoods can be replaced with 1980 or newer hood. Hoods can be bolted togather at cut out. 10 3/8 bolts max. CORE SUPPORT may be shimmed up to desired height by using 2x2 square tubing. No welding. MUST BE SECURED 6 SPOTS. With #9 wire 4 strands per hole. And be sheet metal to sheet metal only. Must have 14" hole in center if not using headers.
**#9 Wire:
You are allowed 6 places max on hoods, trunks, and tail gates. 4 strands per hole. Sheet metal to sheet metal only. No washers! MUST BE OPEN DURING INSPECTION....
**Steering Column:
May be changed to your preference 2 universal joints allowed.
**Radiator & Fans:
Any stock automotive allowed. Only in stock position. Secured by #9 wire. nylon straps, or bungee straps in 2 places only. Remember Water only! NO Coolant. Electric fans permitted. No auxillary cooling systems.
**Battery:
1 battery of any size. Must be placed in a secure position in the front. On the passenger floor board. Battery box is suggested, which must be securely fastened down. Battery Must be covered.
**Starting Method:
You may use toggle, push button or hot wiring method.
**Brakes:
Brakes MUST be functional.
**Windshield:
Two bars or #9 wire must run from roof to cowl panel.
COMPACTS MUST BE FWD AND USE SAME RULES AS BIG CARS. no larger than 108 wheelbase 4 cylinder engine only. Fuel tank may remain in stock location. Payout is 800, 200,100
