one time i put an old fuel pump that had been sitting for a few years, and it cost me not to even run another time i didn't bolt my battery clamps good enough, (actually my dad told me to change the clamps) but i didn't listen made a few hits, and the car flooded, and my batter clamp had moved, and wasn't making a good enough connection to start it back up. i would've had that race too.

rookie season: didn't chain hood to bumper, bumper fell off...bad thigs happen to cars without front bumpers didn't place bar on winshield...same car AFTER bumper fell off, hood bolts sheared on drivers side. The corner of the hood missed my head by inches used column shifter...car got twisted up, and only had drive failed to install clutch fan, radiator got pushed into it, and sheared the water pump shaft door bar too high....ended up wearing the door, and recieved a nice hip injury didn't tube tires, lost both fronts after rookie season: didn't use 2 batteries, had shoddy ground connection used too light guage wire on electrical system....FIRE no protection around fuel line where it went through firewall, twisted up car, cut fuel line...FIRE bad electrical system Last 3 shows before I took a break: forgot to seal ignition system, radiator blew up...broke flag other cars placed ignition wire came unplugged from HEI...yeah, this one really had me steamed, the impala was still mint and after I broke my stick, the other cars placed re used toggle switch for ignition, contacts welded when trying to restart car...broke flag, others placed... this coming year: I'm not going to forget anything...lol....well, I hope

I ran fuel lines down frame rails. Broke engine mount and chain that was holding engine. Shifted into reverse, engine rocked over and hit the hood. When it came back down, it crushed the metal tube that the fuel line was running through and pinched it off. Needless to say, I didn't run much longer after that. Now I run the fuel lines along the intake.

About my fourth year, I had made it to the main. Forgot to put fuel in. About half way thru main, I started running out of gas. The 59 Ford wagon would die, and while trying to start it, I'd wave off a car, that was about to hit me. Which means I was down/done. But I kept starting it up, and I would do a hit, and it would die. And I'd start all over again. I wasn't even thinking, about what I was doing. I got a bunch ot guys, PO'd at me. I only did it, about three times. But that was more than enough. And the real stupid thing about it, I didn't even relies I was doing something wrong, until after I got home. I was so pumped up, it took that long, for it all to sink in. I was a real dummy that day!

there's usually a gas station pretty close to the track, i always stop on the way and fill it up, this past year the gas station was only like a quater mile or so from the dirtrack, and i drove the imperial up there, headers and alll to put gas in it, should've seen the look on the deputy's face that was at the gas station. lol.

I built a whole car from start to finish took it to the derby. I got in it to go in my heat and realized that the seat belt didnt work. I had to use a ratchet strap to keep me in the seat.

lol rachet strap that is a good one yeah when i drove up to the gas station the car had already been derbied, so it was all bent, and the suspension is a little out of aligment (actually alot out of alignment) so it was a fun ride, there was this one idiot that pulled out in front of me, i was trying so hard to keep myself from flooring it.

the dumbest thing i've done was not cutting the converter off a '73 impala. made it down to the last three cars, was holding wide open and slamming gears so it wouldn't stall.then they stoped the heat because it was cherry red.fireman sprayed it and they let me keep going but when i went to throw it back in gear she deid and wouldn't refire.

I had my first car fall off the trailer on the way to the derby. Mytrailer was a little small and kinda flimsy. I went over some railroad tracks and is flexed so much the front strap came unhooked from the trailer. I stopped at at stop sign and when I took off the car rolled back onto the ramps and lifted the backend of my truck off the ground. It revved up to red line and when I looked in the rear view mirror I could see into the engine compartment, from the bottom! The hook on the strop caught on the frame of the car and stopped it halfway down the fold up ramps. It broke out the tail lights on the trailer and shorted out all the lights on the truck except the headlights. Of course there was no one with me or following me. I finally got someone on my cell phone. I sent my wife ahead to sign me in. I got there after the first heat had started. luckally they let me run, not so luck I was taken out by a friend who hit me by accident and killed my diesel. with only one battery she wouldn't turn over.

Stupidest thing I did, which gave me a 2nd place in the feature instead of the feature win was...
Drove up towards the corner to get a run on the last guy running... he followed me into the corner and pushed me sideways between the wall and a dead car... he hit me twice against the wall and I called it off, there was no way for me to get out of it. From there on out, I vowed to myself never to get stuck by corner again.

The stupidest thing that I have done/ have'nt done, was apparently not tightening up the clamp on my transmission cooler. I would say proly 3 to 4 hits into the heat, I could smell it, shortly after, I could see it, all over. Man that sucked! I was in a good heat too!
