I run 20w50 with a bottle of lucas. I think it handles the heat and abuse better. I also have not lost a motor since using this combination and I have lost motors before running this combination.

I use the 20/50 also. I use to use two cans of STP, to replace the last quart of oil. And I had good luck with that. But last year, I tried the Lucas oil, and had good luck with that, too.

Any thing but store name oil ! Most of the time I find that store bands won't hold the viscosity. Most of the time it simply turns to water or worse and leaves the motor ticking , and the lifters bleed down.

LOL thats so true shorty ....and there is a reason behind that...not saying all of them do it but know of some that take what ever they can get cheap and full bottles and put what ever lable on it of what they need .....and as far as STP go's seen test on it where they could come up with the same thing as it by burning oil between to electodes ....

I used to run straight 30 weight in my diesel. What do you guys think I should run in a freshly built 350? I learned in school that you should break in an engine with watever oil you are planning on running in it, except synthetic.

I am still running the same junkyard motor for the last 7 years. For the timing I dont use a light I get the motor hot and advance it till it cranks hard then back off till it cranks easy tighten it down there.

I prefer to use a standard 30 wt - 50wt oil depending on how strong the motor is...I also swear by lucas...it's good stuff. We once used 90wt on an old 302 with a bad rod bearing....it actually held up

Mobil 1 full Synthetic(sp) in 10w30. It helps keep engine cooler and keeps wear down on ends.

I have been running Delvac 5W30 for years and have never had trouble with a synthetic the number is smaller but the protection is greater. The delvac 5W30 is comparable to 15W40 oil.

Ok for the first time in 5 years the derby engine is getting a complete tune-up. Including wires, cap, rotor, plugs and ignition mudule. That should help liven it up.

Check your freeze plugs while you have it out. Maybe put in those brass ones.

WE ALLWAYS USE STRAIGHT 50 WADE RACING OIL NO DETERGENTS TO FOAM AND A BOTTLE OF LUCAS OR DURA LUBE.
