This is for tips, in general. Here are a couple. Take the door jam locks out. This allowes the door to close even more. Makes for a stronger body. Even if you can't weld, this is a good idea. Also, bend in the fender edges. As they get pushed back, they will stop at the doors. If you can't weld your doors, take and use three of four gr.8 bolts, thru the bottom of doors, out thru bottom of rocker panels. Use as big of washer, as you can. This will help keep the bottom of doors, from being pushed in so easy. And it's not a bad idea, to do this, even if you do weld the doors.

do some body work before, depending on the car. that way it will bend the way u want it to, if u can roll the fenders up and out and then weld them it will help keep them out of the tires and make them stronger. if u beat in and if u can weld the quarters it will make it even stronger. change bumpers to a 74-76 impala, 76 olds or a malibu. in gm cars, in mopars: 74-78 newports (some are better then others), 76-78 pointy newyorkers. 74-75 imp bumpers are good.

install battery box, seat (if you use another seat), and as much of you cage as you can before welding the doors shut. in a full weld demo fold the tops of the doors over and weld them to the inner door skin.

On front core support cut out the outside headlight holes so if u get hit it packs straight in and takes pressure off the middle of core support and keeps from bending 753 ;D

If aloud take angle iron 2in by 2in weld it to the rocker slam the door shut then weld the angle to the bottom of the door (help it not to cave in).

NEVER use "grader blades" as your door bar. These things have a high carbon content. This makes them very brittle. ( they break, they don't bend ) I use good thick channel, or pipe. I bolt it to the door bracing in 3 or 4 spots, and then I weld both ends and several spots on the top and bottom of the bar. I also cut angles on both ends of the bar to prevent it from getting snagged. This has always been a reliable way to go for me.

If u run toggle switches dont mount them on the dash make a template of sheet metal and bolt it to stearing colum for an easy area to reach and a lot easyer to get to if u have problems in your heat

I mount my switch and start button right on the shifter mount it is easy to reach there since your hand is on the shifter already.

Same here. We mount the starter button bracket, right on the tranny/driveline hump. You don't want to be reaching for it, if your car stalls while in action. Someone could spoil your whole day, and give you a hit, while you're reaching forward for it. And the same with the tranny shifter. It's right where your hand falls, when you reach for it.

IF YOU DONT RUN DOUBLED TIRES ,TUBE WHATEVER TIRES YOUR USING.RUN STACKS IF YOU CAN AND SILACONE ALL THE PLUG BOOTS TO THE PLUGS AND THE DIST CAP,THEN DUCT TAPE THE CRAP OUT OF THE DIST CAP,AND MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS WORKING B4 YOU GET TO THE TRACK,I HAVE A RAPTOR SHIFTER I LIKE TO USE BUT A PIECE OF ROD FOR A SHIFTER IS BETTER THAN THE STOCK ONE.DUCT TAPE ALL YOUR HOSES EVEN IF YOU HAVE NEW ONES,AND MAKE SURE THAT THE CAR IS RUNNING AS GOOD AS IT CAN B4 YOU GET TO THE TRACK,WE HAVE ALOT OF ROOKIES THAT SHOW UP AT OUR DERBIES TO HAVE SOME FUN AND THE BIGGEST MISTAKE THEY MAKE IS NOT GETTING THERE CAR TO RUN AS GOOD AS IT CAN.IMHO,FWTW.

Start by pulling the body off . Then go to the crush pockets . Cut them loose , but not all the way loose , let it sag towards the ground a little . Then reweld the seams .
