well 4:11 is a rearend gear.. If you want what rearends are good either a 10 or 12 bolt bolt in axle would be the best GM rearends. You can buy gears for I think the 10 bolt

I would guess a 4:11 is a good all around gear to run. But I always left the stock rears in. Gears and all. Never really had any problems that way. Just welded the gears up. If you are talking about the whole rear-end, then I think Nikki has it right.

any thing in the 4 and up range is good. gm put the ten bolt in the k5 blazers with a wide variety of gear ratios some being in the 4 range. these rear ends had 28 spline axles until the late 80s or early 90's. there is a code in the glove boxes on the k5's that told you the gear ratio. if you go with a ten bolt and buy a set of gears be sure that the rear end has a 2.73 or higher already in it or the new gears wont work without buying a new carrier.

a lot of saying what is / isn't a good gear depends on what size tracks you run on, how you run, and the overall general condition . 4:11 is a good gear , but if you run on semi-dry tracks then a higher gear numerically might be better . Also , understanding and knowing what can happen to your choosen rearends also plays a major roll . 10 bolts have a gremlin in the axles of choice , meaning that they have a neck down problem which allows them to get broken easier than the 12 bolt . But the 12 bolt axle can be braoken fairly easily as well
