Sorry to say, but the Battle at the 'Bird, scheduled for Sunday, 9-3-06, has been cancelled. The track owner said that he didn't want the derby cars messing up the race track, as they crossed over it, to get to the derby track. With all the rain, it's a sloppy mess. There's still a possibility that the track could dry up, enough, to run it, but he's not willing to take that chance. There was no pre-planned rain date, and there's no telling when, if ever, it will be rescheduled for. On the other hand, anyone that was planning on running at the 'Bird, is welcome to take their cars to Sykesville (sp?) next week. The promoter has agreed to allow cars built to Hummingbird's rules to run.

Update: There will be a SEPARATE heat (ONE HEAT, ONLY) for all Hummingbird built cars, at the Sykesville show, and it will pay, at least $750, to the winner, possibly more, depending on sponsors. The date for this show is 9-10-06, the gate opens at 10 a.m. and the show starts at 2 p.m. Although the management for the Sykesville show is trying accomodate the Hummingbird drivers, as best as they can, they also felt that it would be very unfair to the Sykesville drivers, that would have UNDERBUILT cars, as compared to Hummingbird's rules. If there are more than 30 Hummingbird cars, the officials are going to try to convince the track owners to put up money for heats and a consi, but this is NOT guaranteed. For more information, please call Tom Slack at 814-371-7522 or 814-371-3471 or 814-603-0612. Please show these folks that we appreciate their efforts, by supporting this show! Best of luck to all!!

No, I'm afraid not. I have to leave on Tuesday, and there's no way I can come back. It totally sucks, but that's the way it goes. It just wasn't meant to be, I suppose. Oh well. Next time, maybe. .
