If you guys/gals could build your dream shop , what and how would you set it up? I have the room in my backyard. Just no money. First of all, I'd concrete the whole back yard and driveway. Then I'd like a three stall shop. Two with lifts in them. A couple of overhead hoists on a shop wide trolly system. I'd want a office/bedroom/bath upstears. A major air compressure with plenty of hook ups for it. And the shop would also have a major electrial set-up. Again with plenty of hook ups/lights. I'd have a good work bench with a vise and grinder. All the stalls would have pad-eyes built into them, so if I needed to pull/bend something, I could use them. A killer wire-feed welder and torches. A bunch of air guns/tools and sockets, etc. And of course plenty of good hand tools. A couple of nice floor jacks and jack stands. And some nice strong carts to move tools/parts around. A parts cleaner/washer. A couple of engine stands. And tranny stands/jacks. And shelves to store parts. I would, of course, have the shop air conditioned and heated. I think a nice free-standing wood stove in the office too. I'd also have a nice entertainment system, with a big screen TV up there. For outside the shop, I'd want a three space car port. And a general open area, again with pad-eyes. I think this would make me very happy!! Steve ;D

stris you got it almost perfect. but my dream shop would include,,,,,, A minimum size of 40'x60'x15', heated concrete floors, central oxy acetelene, a frame rack, a drive on hoist, an acemetrical hoist, over head crane system with a 1 ton and a 5 ton crane, bright white walls, plenty of lights and outlets, any tool nessasry to do any job, oh and add another 20'x60'x10' section to the side, 30' for spray booth, 30' for diesel powered sand balsting area. that should almost cover anything id want to ever do

I must say you do have some very good ideas , both of you. Make my heating system is a waste oil furnace , no recycling , or difficultly storing the waste oil. Make it well ventilated with an evac system to clear the air incase Matt's motor starts smoking too much . State of the art paint booth. These days , and it's coming sooner than you think , it'll need to be EPA approved . I'd have to have a couple different types of pipe benders 1 exhaust pipe , 1 heavy duty for 3/8" wall , a high tonage brake press with atleast 4 ga. dies. Atleast 1 , 150 ton punch press. one 4ga. shear. Band saw , both verticle and horizontal. More later .

now that you say that shorty im gonna have to go much larger with the building size to fit all that in there. ill have to tear down the house and build a building from property line to property line in both directions. And put an apartment up above. Hmmmm 50x150 might not be enough. Good point on the used oil heat. I wonder if you could incorperate that into the heated floors lol.Added tools----- CNC Plasma cutter, Oh cant forget the frame roticery, Tire machine, universal iron worker (same as tc's 150 ton punch press), 10'x20' 1" steel table (for major fabrication), Fully stocked steel rack, car crusher for when there done.

I forgot about the paint booth and presses. And I like the idea of the oil recycleing/heating. Also a plasma cutter. Never used one, but think they are a great idea. And pipe bender and bandsaw, tire machine. I'll also add a chop off saw. And racks to hold the steel and tires/wheels. I'll pass on the car crusher.LOL

Chop saw won't be necessary if you got a horizontal bandsaw , it cuts cleaner too. Plasma cutters are cool . they ( at work ) are thinking of getting 1 to cut up scrap crates at work.
