What are the oldest and newest Ford/Linc/Merc you've built/driven? The oldest are 1958. Those have been a Ford wagon, a Linc, and a T-bird. The wagon was the first, and I really loved it! Did a lot of work(to me), to it. But a lucky shot at the front wheel, popped the steering box. I used it in two different derbys, and wiped out a bunch of cars with it, before the box went. The Linc I built with a friend. We took our time, and it was/is a tank. But I let another friend have it, when I had a bad attack of kidney stones. The T-bird was a fun car also. I helped build it. It won the best looking contest, and took 1st. in the heat. I think it took second in the main. The newest, was a mid-70's fullsize LTD. It wasn't built like I would really have liked. But did pretty darn good. I got a 2nd in the heat, and about 5th/6th in the main.

The oldest Ford product that I've derbied was a pair of '62 Lincolns last summer. One was a hardtop and the other a convertible that I welded a roof on to. I have run every year of suicide Lincoln from 1962 through 1969. I'm looking for a '61 to complete the set. In the stock pile, I have a 1960 Lincoln Mark V four door and a 1959 Edsel Ranger four door that I'd like to get built for next summer. Also have a pair of Tbirds, '64 and '65. The newest Ford that I've run was a 1982 LTD.

I love the 58/60 Lincs. They are kind of a unknown car. They don't have a front, like a suicide one, but it's still very strong. And if done right, so is the trunk. And I did a 64 Bird once. Well, really used it twice. I liked it.

For what I did/didn't do, it did pretty good. We wern't allowed to do much welding. Just spot welds. And bolts/chain in the hood. Chain/spot weld the trunk. And I also didn't pre-bend the trunk right. If I had it to do, all over again, here's what I'd do: Weld every seam on body/frame. Get it up higher. Use more bolts in the hood. And I'd think about adding some leafs to the rear. And I'd pre-bend the trunk, about half way up. I don't know if tucking would work on one of these, but I would think it would.

It has high miles and is a HD taxi but he showed me the maintance files that it was taken care of so I am not worried about the miles. It also has a new alternator, radiator, and tires.
